Live In-Studio: Guitarist Ekachai Jearakul


In 2014, Thai guitarist Ekachai Jearakul won the prestigious International Concert Artist Competition from the Guitar Foundation of America. He’ll be in Louisville to play at the University of Louisville, and perform a live in-studio here at Classical 90.5 on October 6th at 2pm.

Minnesota Orchestra Live from Cuba

Classical 90.5, in partnership with American Public Media, is proud to bring you two live, historic performances of Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra from the Teatro Nacional in Havana, Cuba! These are the first performances and broadcasts of an American Orchestra from Cuba since President Obama moved to normalize relations in December 2014.

On Friday, May 15, Osmo Vänskä will lead the Minnesota Orchestra in a concert of Beethoven masterworks that will prominently feature Cuban artists. In addition to Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont and Eroica Symphony, they’ll be joined by the Cuban National Choir, Coro Vocal Leo and pianist Frank Fernandez for Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy.

The Saturday, May 16 concert includes the unforgettably Mediterranean melodies that comprise Leonard Berstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story as well as Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite.

Anne Richardson plays Bach

Louisville cellist Anne Richardson performed a concert at WUOL, with pianist Debbie Dierks. Listen to her performance of the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 6.

Cellist Anne Richardson returns to WUOL for a live performance on Thursday, January 3rd, at noon.  Doors open at 11:45am and the recital starts at noon. Free and open to the public. LPM members can reserve a seat by calling (502) 814-6565. Pianist Deborah Dierks  will accompany Ms. Richardson on Elgar’s stunning Cello Concerto. The concert will also include a solo cello suite by Bach, and music by Cassado, Piatagorsky and Walton. Anne Richardson is a past winner of the Classical 90.5/PNC Wealth Management Young Artist Competition.

Nashville-based pianist Agnes Wan performed on Lunchtime Classics December 5th. Enjoy her performance of the Piano Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, Op. 110, by Ludwig van Beethoven.
