Live from London: Beethoven's 9th

The world is turning to London this month as the 2012 Olympic Games kick off, and you’re invited to join us on Clasical 90.5 on Friday, July 27th from 1 to 3 P.M. Timed to end exactly one minute before the Opening Ceremony begins, Classical 90.5 will present a live broadcast from the world’s largest classical music festival, the London-based BBC Proms! Join APM’s Fred Child as he hosts the two-hour program from the Royal Albert Hall featuring the West-Eastern Diwan Orchestra in Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 9 in d minor, the beloved “Choral Symphony” that celebrates the brotherhood of humanity. Sir Daniel Barenboim will conduct, with soprano Anna Samuil, mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier, tenor Peter Seiffert, bass René Pape, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The BBC has more information about this concert.
The broadcast will begin with a music-rich pre-game feature, hosted by Fred Child, including highlights of the BBC Proms as well as brief colorful comments from Sir Daniel Barenboim, Olympic athletes, and London locals. Be sure to join us on Friday, July 27th starting at 1 P.M. on Classical 90.5 and online.
